Decent museum. Historical society archives however is a joke , not helpful to researchers at all. Waste of time. They don't have anything. The only records I have are things that have been donated by the public and they're not being made publicly accessible so you can't just go in and actually research anything on your own Eben if you are a seasoned genealogist of decades

This is a tragically neglected museum, Smith County & City of Tyler should be ashamed. They should fund this fabulous Carnegie donated building of great architectural and cultural notoriety. Instead, they shirk their responsibility off to the Historical Society. It was closed, and available sparingly by appointment only. There are only 2 employees, and one off duty for an extended time makes it impossible to open to the public. My great grandfather was a County Commissioner. Sad. He would be ashamed to be a Commissioner now. Drive down the road to Marshall, a city of 1/4 the size, and see one of Texas' finest small town museums.
