This is our child's second summer at Garden Camp and he's already asking to go back next summer! Joan and the rest of camp staff are so lovely and great with our son, he's learned so much. The best part IMO is that he comes home dirty, sweaty, and totally zonked each day—a great summer day! The kids really get to decide how they want to spend their day at Garden Camp (within boundaries, of course), it's a special place.
Im sure it’s a great place for a neurotypical child. But not for any kid with disabilities who might need extra support. If you’re a parent who worries about sending your child to new places and fears they won’t be understood, these are not our people. IYKYK. However the owner is a seemingly kind person and the space looks like lots of fun. My kiddo had a blast the one day they attended.
Garden camp is the best; we have been coming for years. My 9 year old son enjoys the space to have free exploration outdoors and the option to participate in cooking and gardening. I love the hands on learning he participates in and the fact that the Educational Garden Project thinks holistically about our greater community and gives back in so many ways. Our town and surrounding areas have just experienced the devastation of Helene yet Joan and her crew have offered pop up childcare for two weeks. We are so thankful for joy and play during these trying times. We love EGP, the fact they they are community minded and that they provide a no pressure space for children to grow and learn at their own pace. Thank you Joan and crew!
Both of my girls went to the hurricane Helene relief camps and absolutely loved it. Joan has a great program going there, lots of outdoors time, hands on activities and just getting to be kids outside in nature. Looking forward to the summer camp! Highly recommend if you live in the asheville area!
My 6-year old daughter loves this camp. We are now at day 3. The First Time Here Tour impressed me. The place is well organized, the gardens beautiful, the counsellors competent and responsive. My daughter keeps talking about those baby rabbits. I bet she'll keep great memories of this experience.
