Nothing spectacular. Pretty small area over all. The old cabin was interesting and there was a solid walking trail. The park was a bit of a drive from Billings. 40 min. It was something to do as a tourist.
The park itself was lovely. A nice little walk with panels explaining various creatures of the area. Not much interpretation of Chief Plenty Coups outside; possibly inside the interpretive center but it was closed. The direction I came had me drive for several miles over a gravel road which wasn't bad and the land, for the most part, was very nice to drive through. Unfortunately, at one point, the road goes past the dump? Garbage everywhere and blowing for miles. There isn't a sign, but apparently at this point the land is part of the Crow Reservation. The garbage itself was dispiriting but knowing the people's land is being so disrespected made it worse. As I was leaving I had a bit of car trouble and while I was taking care of it, a local came upon me and kindly stayed with me until my car was ready to go. She explained that this road was not a place someone wanted to be helpless. I recommend the site but be prepared for the journey.
Def one of my personal favorite places Ive been to. I literally had the whole grounds to myself while I was here, something very special in that room upstairs in the cabin, you can feel it. Very serene, beautiful & peaceful place. I can see why Chief Plenty Coups chose this place…correction, this place chose him.
Always a beautiful peaceful place to visit, especially in the early fall. Off the beathen path, but well worth a visit for an important slice history.
Experience riding weeks on a ranch in Montana for the first time in America. After a four-hour ride in the Pryor Mountains, you can recharge, enjoy peace and quiet, learn a lot, and enjoy nature in the shade of the trees. A wonderful place. It's worth a visit! 😊
